The short version
- You can use the whole app without an account. Without one, nothing you do leaves your phone.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, we store your name, email address, display name, and what you choose to sync, so it can follow you to another device.
- No ads. No third-party analytics or tracking. We never sell or rent your information.
- You can export everything or delete your account at any time, from inside the app.
Who we are
Apostolic Devotions is published by Apostolic Path LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Apostolic Devotions apps for iPhone and Android, the service behind them, and this website. If you have a question about your information, write to support@apostolicdevotions.app.
Using the app without an account
Signing in is optional, and everything except the prayer wall works without it. Without an account:
- Your reading progress, streaks, bookmarks, highlights, notes, journal, prayer list, memory verses and settings are stored only on your phone.
- Devotions and the Bible are built into the app, so reading them sends nothing to us.
- Daily reminders are scheduled by your phone itself. We do not run a push-notification server and hold no notification token for you.
- Listening to a devotion uses your phone's built-in text-to-speech voice.
- Usage counts that power features such as your streak are kept on your phone and are never sent to us.
If you delete the app, this information is deleted with it, unless your phone's own backup (for example iCloud or Google backup) has a copy. Those backups are controlled by Apple or Google and by your device settings.
When you sign in with Apple or Google
You can sign in to back up your data and keep it in step across devices, and to take part in the prayer wall. We offer Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google only. We never see or store a password.
When you sign in, Apple or Google tells us:
- A unique account identifier that lets us recognize you the next time you sign in.
- Your name, which we use to suggest a display name.
- Your email address, which we use only to identify your account and to answer you if you contact us. With Apple you can choose "Hide My Email", in which case we receive a private relay address instead of your real one.
Your display name starts as the name Apple or Google gives us, and you can change it at any time. It is the only part of your profile other people can see, and only on prayer requests you post under your name. We do not receive your Apple or Google password, contacts, photos or anything else from your Apple or Google account.
What we store when you sign in
When you are signed in, the app copies the following to our servers so it can sync them:
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Account identifier, name, email address, display name | To recognize your account and show your display name where you choose |
| Reading progress, streaks and plan progress | So your place and progress follow you to another device |
| Bookmarks, highlights and notes | Sync |
| Journal entries | Sync and backup |
| Personal prayer list and answered prayers | Sync and backup |
| App settings (theme, text size, reminder time) | So a new device feels like yours |
| Prayer wall posts, prayers and reports | To run the community prayer wall (see below) |
We do not read, analyze or profile your journal, notes or prayers. They are stored so they can be returned to you, and are only accessed by staff when needed to keep the service running or when the law requires it.
The prayer wall
The prayer wall is a shared space where signed-in believers post requests and pray for one another.
- Requests you post are visible to other signed-in users, with your display name or as "Anonymous" if you choose. Even anonymous posts are linked to your account on our side, so we can enforce the community rules and limits.
- When someone taps "I prayed", we record it so the count is accurate and each person counts once.
- If you report a post, we keep the report so it can be reviewed. The person who posted it is never told who reported it.
- Please do not include information in a request that you would not want others to read, such as phone numbers, addresses or other people's private details.
You can delete your own posts at any time. Removed posts are kept for up to 30 days so a moderator can review an appeal, then permanently deleted.
Technical information
When the app talks to our servers, as when you sign in, sync or open the prayer wall, our hosting provider receives the technical details any internet request carries, such as your IP address, the app version and the time. We use them only to deliver the service, keep it secure and fix problems:
- Operational logs record each request with a shortened IP address that cannot identify a household, and are kept for no more than 30 days.
- To stop abuse (for example repeated sign-in attempts), we keep short-lived counters keyed by a scrambled, one-way version of an address or account. They are deleted within two days.
- A security log records events such as sign-ins and account deletions, with an internal account number but no email, name or content. It is kept for 180 days.
This website sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts or fonts, and uses no analytics.
What we never do
- We never sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We show no ads and include no advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- We do not use your journal, notes or prayers to train AI models or build profiles.
Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run the service. They process information only on our instructions and only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosts our servers and this website (United States) |
| Neon | Hosts our database, encrypted at rest (United States, Ohio) |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, and app distribution through the App Store and Google Play |
| Expo | Builds the app and may deliver app updates to your phone |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a transfer of the service to a new owner, who would be bound by this policy. Your information is stored and processed in the United States.
How long we keep it
- Your account and synced content: for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, it is deleted from our live database immediately.
- Database backups: our provider keeps short-term backups for disaster recovery. Deleted data drops out of them as they expire, within 30 days.
- Operational logs: up to 30 days. Security log: 180 days, without your name, email or content.
Your choices and rights
You are in control, and you can do most of this yourself in the app under Settings → Account:
- See and download your data: choose "Export my data" for a copy of everything stored for your account.
- Correct it: change your display name at any time.
- Delete it: choose "Delete account". See how account deletion works.
- Stop syncing: sign out. Your data stays on your phone; deleting the app removes it from the device.
- Revoke sign-in: you can also disconnect Apostolic Devotions from your Apple ID or Google account settings.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or state privacy laws in the United States such as California's), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete or port your information, to object to or restrict processing, and to appeal a decision we make about your request. We grant these rights to everyone, wherever they live. Email support@apostolicdevotions.app and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising them. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our agreement with you to provide the service you sign up for, on your consent for anything optional, and on our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and free of abuse.
Children
An account is for people 13 and older (or the older age your country requires for consent). Anyone can use the app without an account, which collects nothing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
All connections to our servers are encrypted (HTTPS). Our database is encrypted at rest by our provider. On your phone, sign-in credentials are kept in the device's secure storage (the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore). Access to production systems is limited to the people who run the service. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities as the law requires if a breach affects you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
